Performance Work

Bryonie began performing in dance shows at the age of four, which is where her passion for performing began as she was nurtured and encouraged by a fantastic teacher who turned her into a confident, performative dancer. Her years of studying dance includes the styles ballet, tap, theatre craft, musical theatre, jazz, and contemporary. Before moving to university, she achieved IDTA Grade 5 in ballet, tap, and theatre craft, with her Intermediate study impacted by COVID. Once she finishes university, her plan is to complete her Intermediate grades, and to begin working towards her teachers' certificate.

She has been involved in choirs since school, and joined her local music hub choir, and later their advanced choir called Harmonic Voice, in 2016. Here, her ability to read sheet music and to sightread, developed through her instrument playing, meant she was often placed on the alto or mezzo-soprano harmony as it was harder to learn than the tune, and she could be trusted to learn and deliver it correctly. It was at this choir that Bryonie's vocal confidence grew, as she was given the chance to perform solos in their end of term concerts with full support from her peers and the choir master.

During her degree, Bryonie performed in two full-scale course musicals, as Mrs. Stephens, Reverend Bliss, Helen and dance captain in Carrie in 2022, and the lead role of Judy Denmark/Ginger DelMarco in Ruthless! in 2023. Her multiroling and role of dance captain in Carrie introduced her to the difficulty of swing work, as not only did she have to know each of her characters (who they were, how they'd act, when she had to change between them), but she had to remember the tracks of every cast member in each of the dances, so that she could lead extra dance rehearsals, and correct her peers if they were in the wrong place. The dual role of Judy Denmark/Ginger DelMarco challenged her to create two characters who were actually one person, finding nuanced ways to connect the two and let them show through each other, but also challenged her vocally and characteristically, as it was not the kind of role she would typically have played. Her final performance was highly successful, and she leanred much about herself and her craft during its rehearsal process. Her end of first year show was a cabaret-style online piece, due to the pandemic, which expanded her digital skills and her creativity of performing within a small screen space. She also had the opportunity to be involved with creating two devised pieces, including one based upon a jukebox-style musical, for which she was musical director. The role of musical director meant she had to select the correct music to fit within the story, but also meant she was tasked with teaching others the harmonies for the song, which expanded her skill set.

She is also an active performer in amateur dramatics. She has been involved in two local pantomimes in the leading roles of Maid Marian in Robin Hood and Jenny Trelawney in Treasure Island, which taught her to interact with an audience without breaking character, as audiences (especially children) can be unpredictable and can respond unexpectedly to audience participation. She has also featured in several amateur musicals, most recently in shows such as Priscilla Queen of the Desert (featured ensemble), Bonnie and Clyde (Eleanore and principal dancer), Flashdance (principal dancer), The Wedding Singer (principal dancer), Madagascar (principal dancer), Titanic (featured Third-class and Second-class ensemble), and Grease (ensemble).

Bryonie has also recently begun her endeavour into the world of choreography, having choreographed Our House: The Madness Musical for a Telford-based amateur company in May 2024. The production garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews for the choreography itself, as well as the show as a whole, and Bryonie thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being part of the production team of a show. She is currently choreographing Legally Blonde for the same company.
