Musicial Work and Achievements

Bryonie began learning the piano at the age of six. Since then, she has grown from strength to strength, expanding her instrumentation to include the violin and viola, and taking any and all opportunities to perform and accompany.

She joined her first string orchestra at a local music hub when she was ten, having picked up the violin at age seven. She continued to play in string orchestras, rising through the orchestras as she worked through her grades. By the time she left in March 2020 (due to the pandemic), she had played as both first desk Violin I and Viola in the hub's highest string orchestra, often playing solo sections in pieces in the end of term concerts. This was also true for her school orchestra, where she was one of only two violas, and thus was often expected to competently carry the viola part of a piece against a dozen or so violin players. She believes this was an important factor in her confidence in carrying harmony lines both in music, and in singing, as it is a skill she had to learn quickly once she began playing the viola in 2016.

Bryonie also used her string playing to accompany performances for a local pantomime group, serving as a pit musician on the violin for their Dick Whittington pantomime in 2018, and an onstage accompanist on the viola for parts of their summer revue shows in 2019 and 2021.

During her degree, Bryonie was also given the opportunity to accompany a Level 4 cabaret-style assessment performance called Ya Got Me, Shakespeare which combined pieces of Shakespearean text with musical theatre pieces from early and Golden Age musicals. These included 'To Woo a Fair Maid' from Gilbert and Sullivan's Yeoman of the Guard, 'Stepsister's Lament' from Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, and 'People Will Say We're in Love' from Oklahoma! She has also accompanied numbers in various concerts with her vocal group Amici, as well as singing in those concerts.
